Negotiating for Success Workshop

Many women fail to recognize opportunities to negotiate — about their compensation and roles, about the support they need to be successful, about the resources to get the job done, and about buy-in from their peers and those they lead.

Nancy Stapley, BPW Calgary President and business consultant, will draw attention to how women can proactively negotiate for conditions of personal and career success, and assess ways that women may be unknowingly undermining themselves. In this workshop, we explore the gender salary gap as related to different approaches to negotiation and discuss how, by mastering a few basic principles, anyone can become an effective negotiator.

In role plays on effective strategies for negotiation, as well as possible compensation pitfalls and how to avoid them, we will explore how women can remain authentic and maintain interpersonal relationships while maximizing the value of their negotiation.

The evening kicks off at 5:30, so plan to arrive then to network with like-minded women from diverse industries! BPW is excited to continue supporting Servants Anonymous, our community partner, by meeting at Venu1008.

unnamedNancy Stapley is President of BPW Calgary and an experienced finance professional with a passion for economic security for women. Her training as a Chartered Accountant led Nancy to start her own consulting business 10 years ago where she facilitates enabling solutions during periods of major growth and step change.

Nancy has experience in the strategy, policy development, and risk and change management domains.

To date, she has delivered the Negotiating for Success workshop to over 600 women across Alberta.

Women & Politics in YYC with Sandra Jansen and Ask Her

Women make up 52% of Canada’s population, yet we represent roughly 20% of elected politicians on municipal, provincial and federal levels. In Calgary, we have only two female City of Calgary counsellors. Ask Her is trying to change that.

On October 12, we’ll welcome Ask Her to speak to BPW Calgary members and guests about how they are committed to increasing the number of women running for Calgary City Council. We’ll also hear from Sandra Jansen, MLA for Calgary-North West regarding her experience in politics.

This is a great non-partisan platform to explore female representation locally and nationally, and to find out how we can better support women in their political pursuits.

The evening kicks off at 5:30, so plan to arrive then to network with like-minded women from diverse industries! BPW is excited to continue supporting Servants Anonymous, our community partner, by meeting at Venu1008.

Mini-workshop: Authentic Leadership

BPW Newsletter side headers

Prior to our dinner meeting on September 14, you’re invited to attend a mini-workshop to explore Authentic Leadership for Women, beginning at 3 PM.

Author Sheryl Sandberg (Facebook COO) states in her well-known book “Lean In“ that women often hold themselves back, may fall victim to stereotyping, or end up being disliked when we display male leadership tendencies. Catalyst (with over 50 years of research data on women in the workplace) reports that women develop women at a faster rate than men develop women (73% vs. 30%), so our imperative to increase the number of effective women leaders is significant.

Join BPW Calgary’s Mentorship Chair and Executive Coach Yvonne E.L. Silver to learn more on:

  • Feminine leadership – the differences & opportunities
  • Your personal Authenticity Awareness level
  • How to lead your team to high octane results.

Wisdom Boost 2016 is BPW Calgary’s Mentorship Program, however, guests may attend this mini-workshop for a nominal fee of just $20.
