Human Rights in Action with Marie-Claude Landry Ad. E.
Join us for dinner and an opportunity to hear from Marie-Claude Landry Ad. E, the Chief Commissioner of the Canadian Human Rights Commission. She will be speaking about one of the key human rights issues facing people in Canada – Disability Rights. Following the Chief Commissioner’s speech, we will gather feedback on proposed resolutions for the federal government. The resolutions process, reaching back to BPW Calgary’s rich history with the Famous Five, helps to ensure womens’ voices are adequately represented in economic, political, social, and employment matters to help us achieve equality in our society. This year’s topics include: sexual assault training for judges; disability rights; equal pay.
The Chief Commissioner’s Comments on Hate:
“We must be louder than those who make headlines by their acts of hatred. We must call out acts of intolerance no matter how small, because even small acts can embolden the hatred and anger that lead to devastating consequences. Our diversity is our greatest strength.”
