On November 11, BPW Calgary will mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Our keynote speaker is Josie Nepinak, the Executive Director of Awo Taan Healing Lodge Society, the only aboriginal urban women’s shelter in Alberta. Our focus will be on Canada and how organizations and individuals are addressing family violence and violent crimes against aboriginal women and girls. You can access the Society’s wishlist here.
We will be also be collecting new blankets for HUGS (Hope Uplifts Giving Strength) to make a difference in the lives of women and children who need to feel warmth, comfort, and security, while they go through a difficult time and strive to lead lives free of violence and abuse.
