Come engage in one of BPW Calgary’s pillars, RESOLUTIONS.
This historic evening will kick off with our traditional Candlelight ceremony which will highlight and represent the rich history of BPW. We will then dive into our Resolutions Process outlining how you can get more involved in our pillar of Advocacy and how you can have your voice heard at the Prime Minister’s Office!
This is your opportunity to actively participate in our mandate as we strive to improve the economic, employment, political and social conditions for all women. The art of writing resolutions is a tradition that reaches back to BPW Calgary’s rich history with the Famous Five. Today we are proud to continue with this honored tradition which has proven effective in providing our organization with a VOICE on the important areas where we believe the government needs to take action to help us achieve equality in our society.
Our resolutions process serves as a means to formally express our opinions and to influence policy change at all levels of government with regard to issues affecting women. Every year, BPW clubs from across the country survey their members on the issues that are most important to them, and craft written resolutions. All of the drafted resolutions are submitted to the BPW Canada Resolutions Chair for review and comment. Once the resolutions are reviewed, they are then put into final form and are presented at our BPW Canada AGM meeting for discussion and voting. All voted resolutions are then included in a Brief to the Prime Minister for consideration. Likewise, though our Commendations, we get to acknowledge the work of the federal or provincial government, as well as other non-governmental organizations, in advancing gender equality in our country.
We encourage all of you to come learn more about this important work and to consider becoming involved!
