BPW Presents: Jeanne Martinson, author of “Toss the Tiara”

Join us on November 27 for lunch with author, Jeanne Martinson at the new Central Library. Jeanne will be discussing her book, Toss the Tiara: Forget Fairy Tales – Focus on Fulfillment.

From the Disney princess phenomenon to the impact of 50 Shades of Grey and the #MeToo movement, Jeanne will discuss how our media world affects women’s success in work and relationships. Join this best-selling author and learn key lessons and strategies for facing current issues in the workplace.

Jeanne is a professional speaker, diversity strategist and best selling author. Her other books include Leadership Lessons From Downtown Abbey, Generation Y and the New Work Ethic and From Away – Immigration to Effective Workplace Integration.

The lunch starts at 12:30, so plan to arrive then to network with like-minded women from diverse industries! A light lunch is included with your ticket.

Staying Safe in a Cyber World

More of our lives than ever before are online both professionally and personally. It used to be just computers, but now we have smart phones, cars and even houses connected to the internet. All this connectivity through cyberspace comes with new safety concerns.

Join us on Wednesday, November 14 at 5:30 pm for a presentation by Constable Carter Duchesney, Calgary who will be educating us on various aspects of Cyber Security and Safety.

Constable Duchesney, with a BA, Criminology, University of Ottawa, has been involved in policing since 2003. He is a sworn member of the Calgary Police Service and been a member of RCMP. He has a breadth of experience from general patrol duties to plain clothes surveillance. More recently he is a Cybercrime Education Officer giving presentation to schools, organizations and the general public.

The evening starts at 5:30, so plan to arrive then to network with like-minded women from diverse industries! This event is held in the Quarter Horse Room at the BMO Centre.

Inspiring Female Greatness: Sept 12

Join us September 12 when Alison Springer, founder, Young Women of Power, will talk about inspiring female greatness. Alison inspires young women to build inner confidence through Young Women of Power (YWOP) clubs and events across Calgary. YWOP believes that building confidence and empowering young women reduces their vulnerability to violence against women.

YWOP focuses on empowering girls 12- 18 and young women 18-30 by: redefining Beauty; teaching how to use and apply Wisdom; building confidence to produce Powerful change; being unwavering around values and Principles.

Whatever your age, you will be uplifted by Alison and her presentation of teachings to inspire female greatness. The evening starts at 5:30, so plan to arrive then to network with like-minded women from diverse industries! As a reminder, this evening will be held at the Kahanoff Centre.

An Evening of Celebration: June 13

Join us Wednesday, June 13 for our last social event of the club year! We will celebrate the onset of summer with a drink (cash bar available) and conversation, supper at Reader Rock Garden Cafe and recognition of this year’s Wisdom Boost (mentorship) participants. The evening will commemorate another year of BPW advocacy and women working for working women. If you’re new to BPW, come to learn about why we would love to have you join as a member.

The Reader Rock Garden was recently designated as a National Historic Site and dates back over 100 years. With BPW’s own rich history of 90 years in Calgary, this evening presents a unique opportunity to celebrate the history of our community.

Wander through the gardens on route to the Cafe, enjoying the June blossoms. Who knew there were Calgary based gardens that blossomed from mid-April to mid-October?

Get Involved: A Path to Municipal Leadership April 11

Jyoti Gondek, recently elected City Councillor, will share her experiences and perspectives on how women can engage with the issues and organizations that facilitate a path to elected office on April 11. Certain forms of voluntary public service better enable one for success in politics. Jyoti will share how she leveraged her board experience with diverse organizations, and her education, to create her own vision for municipal leadership. Her approach has applicability to multiple arenas.

The evening starts at 5:30, so get ready to network with like-minded women from diverse industries!
