June 12, 2013: Year-End Celebration and Relationship Building with Appetizers and Silent Auction

Appetizer snacks at a receptionConnect with high-potential emerging leaders, business and professional women who uphold profound relationships and a compassionate network.

Members and non-members can unite in our year-end celebration over appetizers and silent auction as we showcase the graduates of BPW Calgary’s Mentorship Program.

This core program was nominated for the Best Practices Award at the Institute of Canadian Citizenship in 2010.  In the final submission, the program was applauded for its unique approach to relationship building and hands-on approach.  Our members were recognized as leaders who open the door to share their knowledge, expertise, leadership experiences, support and friendship.  This attitude is necessary for active and responsible citizenship.

May 8, 2013: Business Meeting, Election, and Annual Book Drive

The theme we started with in 2012 was Transforming Vision into Reality, and collectively we were able to realize the impact on the ground by marking Equal Pay Day in Calgary, the World’s First International Day of the Girl, and submitting a powerful resolution to BPW Canada on human trafficking.

At the last business meeting, our goal was to build capacity at the executive level and we are now in a strong position to continue transforming our vision into reality.

As a woman in business or in the professions, let your voice be heard on May 8.  How can BPW Calgary influence government, businesses and corporations to improve economic conditions of women?  How can we attract and retain competent women to lead our club’s mentorship program?  How can we embrace women entering the workforce to build their confidence and step up the corporate ladder?  How can we all strengthen our professional and personal development and above all… how can we have fun while doing all this???  Let your ideas formulate the club’s strategic plan for the upcoming year.

RSVP by Wednesday, May 1, 2013 by emailing [email_info] to reserve your spot or for immediate confirmation REGISTER ONLINE using the form to the right. Also note our dinner location and cancellation policy in the sidebar.

The evening will begin with election and installing of new executive officers.  It will end with a facilitated discussion to prepare for 2013/2014.  Dr. Toni Reid, BPW Member and Naturopathic Doctor, will discuss stress management and women’s health during dinner.  We will also be renewing memberships and spreading the spirit of reading through our annual book drive to support the Servants Anonymous Society of Calgary in providing long-term programs, ongoing support, hope and wholeness to young women who are victims of, or are at risk of, sexual exploitation.

Equal Pay Day: March 18, 2013 at Noon in the Olympic Plaza

Equal Pay Day

Special
Event
We will not be hosting a dinner in March — instead join us downtown on March 18!

Equal Pay Day marks the end of the 420 days that Canadian women must work to earn the same wage that their male counterparts earn in just 365 days.  In Canada, in 2008, women who worked full-time, full-year earned $0.71 for every $1.00 earned by men working the same period, resulting in a “wage gap” of 29 cents.

According to Stats Can Women’s Economic Wellbeing 2011, despite Equal Pay and Pay Equity legislation, income equity is not a reality in Canada with women in the workforce still earning only a percentage of what their male counterparts earn – on average, less than 80%.

Join Us March 18

To show your support for Equal Pay Day, wear red on March 18.

Drop in with your colleagues, friends and family to join us at noon at Olympic Plaza near the Women are Persons monument.

Visit our Equal Pay Day project page to access the Equal Pay Day presentation, brochure, and information sheet, as well as a guide to managing compensation pitfalls.
